There are many different ways to help yourself:
- Lose Weight - Reducing your weight will reduce
fat deposition in the throat. This, in turn, will provide a more clear airway,
reducing the likelihood of snoring.
- Sleep on your side - For many snorers, sleeping
on either side is preferable to sleeping on the back. Using a pillow appropriately
positioned may be helpful. Sewing a tennis ball into a pocket on the back of the
snorer's nightshirt can also serve as a reminder to sleep on the side of stomach.
- Avoid alcohol - Alcohol can increase muscular
relaxation in the throat which can increase snoring. Abstaining from alcohol for at
least four hours before bedtime or altogether can help.
- Stop Smoking - Smoking is often associated with increased nasal
congestion and mucus discharge. By quitting, the likelihood of snoring is reduced.
